Cupping

Cupping has been a part of Chinese Medicine for over 2,500 years. It relieves aches and pains, improves circulation, and also helps with respiratory and digestive issues. I simply place a specialized "cup" onto specific points on your body, and then use suction to draw your skin up into the cups. It doesn't hurt — it simply draws fresh blood to that area of your body, which facilitates the cleansing and strengthening of your Qi (energy). The end result is a greater overall sense of health and well-being. Pricing for cupping occurs when booked as an individual session.

Pricing applies when booked as a stand alone service.

Gua Sha

30 minutes: $55

Although Gua Sha is an ancient healing technique used by Chinese Medicine practitioners for thousands of years, it is relatively unknown in the West. It is recognized throughout Asia as a highly effective treatment for chronic pain conditions, stress, fatigue, and a host of other ailments.

First, Gua Sha oil is applied to a specific meridian (energy pathway) on your body. I then use a smooth round-edged object (such as a spoon) to apply short brisk strokes to that area. This creates red patches of skin (called "Sha"), detoxifying your blood and restoring the healthy flow if Qi (energy) to the area. There is no pain involved, and the Sha will fade in 2 to 3 days. But the sense of health and vitality you experience from it will last much longer.

Pricing when booked as an individual session.

Among other benefits, a landmark study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1998 found that 75.4% of women suffering from breech presentations before childbirth had fetuses that rotated to the normal position after receiving moxibustion at an acupuncture point on the bladder meridian.

Tui Na

Tui Na is an ancient form of bodywork that is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I use a variety of pressures and strokes along the meridians (energy pathways) of your body to both relax your muscles and also stimulate the flow of energy throughout your body. By treating both the physical (musculature) and energetic (Qi) levels of your body at the same time, I can achieve different results from what you’d receive from a conventional massage therapy session. These is used as needed in conjunction with your acupuncture session. I currently do not book Tui Na as a stand alone service.

Electroacupuncture

Electroacupuncture is a highly effective holistic treatment for pain, nausea, and chronic ailments. In practice, it is actually very similar to traditional acupuncture. Using the exact same system of Chinese Medicine, I insert very thin and sterile needles into specific points along the meridians of your body. I then attach the needles to a device that delivers gentle electrical pulses between two points. This helps restore the healthy flow of Qi (energy) through your body, removing any blockages and clearing out stagnant areas, thus creating a stronger and clearer experience of health and well-being.

Pulse Diagnosis

One of the most common questions that patients ask about Chinese Medicine is: "Why does my practitioner check my pulse?" Pulse diagnosis is actually one of the most complex and important diagnostic techniques we use in Chinese Medicine. Through feeling and evaluating your pulse, I obtain an accurate diagnosis of your overall constitution, Qi (energy) flow, and internal organ health, among other things. I then synthesize all of this information into a highly effective and individualized treatment plan for your specific needs.

Far Infrared mat

20 minutes: $25

Infrared heat therapy actually provides warmth in a deeper level than ordinary heat therapy like a heating pad. It uses a wavelength on the electromagnetic spectrum, it’s the same type of warmth the sun provides for us.

Infrared wavelengths are actually able to travel an inch or two past the surface of the skin and give you a deep warming heat which you can really feel. It helps by increasing circulation and helping sore spots on your body.  This mimics moxibustion in Traditional Chinese Medicine, many of the same treatment protocols can be used depending on placement.  Moxa still has its place but when this can be used it covers a larger area and helps for people that have a hard time with smoke and the smell of moxa.

So, what can we expect following a session of Infrared heat therapy?

Studies have shown an increase in blood circulation, oxygenation of the tissue and pain levels can decrease. Other side benefits can include increased sleep, less fatigue, and a decrease in joint pain. Detoxification and increased immune function, which are really just a side result of decreased inflammation, can also be experienced. The use of a mat is more localized than a sauna and for some conditions preferable.

Raindrop Therapy is a technique that uses essential oils to promote balance and wellness in the body. Gary Young, the founder of Young Living Essential Oils. It's based on Young's studies with a Lakota medicine man and other techniques he studied. The technique typically uses nine essential oils with antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Some common oils used include basil, cypress, marjoram, oregano, peppermint, thyme, valor II, and wintergreen. Sometime heat is applied toward the end to help drive the oils deeper into the body and relieve joint pain.

Castor Oil Packing

60 minutes: $30

Castor oil has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for a variety of health concerns. The practice of castor oil packing is the use of applying the oil topically to the skin. One of the main functions for which users reach to castor oil is internal healing, via a topical application to work with the lymphatic system. To use a castor oil pack, simply soak a piece of cloth in the oil and place it on the affected area with heat. Leave the pack on for at least an hour.

One of the most significant benefits of castor oil packing is its effect on the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is responsible for removing waste and toxins from the body. A sluggish lymphatic system can lead to a variety of health issues. These can include poor digestion, chronic fatigue and weakened immunity. Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid that is shown to increase lymphatic circulation, improving the body’s ability to eliminate toxins and waste. Castor oil packing is a natural and effective way to improve overall health. Its ability to improve lymphatic function can have far-reaching benefits, from improved digestion to reduced inflammation and pain reduction. For those dealing with endometriosis or fertility issues, castor oil packing may offer unique benefits, helping to reduce inflammation, ease pain and promote healthy reproductive function.

There are studies on the benefits of ricinoleic acid and how it works with constipation and castor oil packing. People who are sensitive to the castor plant should not do castor oil packs without skin patch testing for sensitivity. Do not do castor oil packs while pregnant or breast feeding.
